Dr Jim Macnamara AM, PhD, FAMEC, FAMI
is an Emeritus Professor in the School of Communication and Social Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and an internationally sought speaker, consultant, and trainer in communication. He specializes in evaluation of public communication and organizational listening as part of two-way communication and engagement.

Dr Jim Macnamara AM, PhD, FAMEC, FAMI is an Emeritus Professor in the School of Communication and Social Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and an internationally sought speaker, consultant, and trainer in communication. He specializes in evaluation of public communication and organizational listening as part of two-way communication and engagement.
He retired from a full-time academic role in 2026 after 18 years as a Professor at UTS.
Prior to becoming an academic, he had a 30-year professional career in media and communication spanning journalism, public relations, and founding and heading a commercial media and audience research company for more than a decade.
He is the author of 22 books and more than 100 academic journal articles and book chapters.
Jim was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2026 for “significant services to tertiary education, to communication research, and to public relations”.
Dr Gail Kenning, PhD
is Senior Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney. An artist by training, she is involved in pioneering research to develop digital companions using the latest generative artificial intelligence (AI) and exploring their application for combatting loneliness and social isolation among people living alone and in aged care and other institutional environments.

Dr Gail Kenning PhD gained her Doctor of Philosophy in digital art from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) after completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) and a Masters of Fine Arts in the UK before migrating to Australia.
As well as operating an art studio in Sydney, she has worked in a Director of a media research company, as a designer, and most recently as a Research Fellow at UNSW in pioneering research to develop digital companions based on generative artificial intelligence (AI) for combatting loneliness and social isolation for people living alone and in aged care and other facilities.
As well as exhibiting her digital and traditional artworks in Australia, Asia, and the UK, she has published extensively in academic journals and is co-author of xxxx, xxx.
